About Us

Indian Federation of United Nations Associations ( IFUNA ) was established more than four decades ago to promote the objectives of the United Nations and its Specialized Agencies. It is a Non-governmental, Voluntary, Nonprofit Organization working for International Peace and Understanding. IFUNA strives to focus its programs and activities around the vital concerns of the United Nations, like, Peace, International Understanding, Environment and Human Rights. In conducting all these activities and programs, effort is made to involve the leadership from all sections of society so as to make them broad based and effective. IFUNA maintains close liaisons with Government Organizations, Press and Diplomatic Missions interested in United Nations activities. IFUNA has already created a niche for itself in the academic and social circles of the country through its varied and numerous activities like Lectures, Seminars, Symposiums, and Observance of U.N. Days, Debates, Competitions and Exhibitions on U.N Subjects.

Indian Federation of United Nations Associations ( IFUNA ) is affiliated with the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). IFUNA is the only body to represent India in the U.N. Forums. IFUNA was founded by Late Sh. Acharya Narendra Dev who was a political thinker and social reformer.

Galaxy of Luminaries had adorned the office of President of IFUNA like Late Acharaya Narendra Dev, Late Smt. Vijaya Laxmi Pandit Former President of General Assembly U.N.O., Late Mrs. Savitri Nigam, Member of Parliament, Late Mrs. Rajan Nehru, Member of Parliament and Sh. Ram Krishan Hegde, Member of Parliament. IFUNA has a network of affiliated State United Nations Associations in various states of the country such as Maharashtra, West Bengal, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Affiliated to WFUNA

World Federation of United Nations Associations ( WFUNA ) , ( Geneva ) has more than 100 member countries including India. WFUNA has its Head Office located in U.N Building, Geneva and in New York and Regional Offices in Accra, Ghana and India. Great political thinkers like Mr. Jan Masreck, former Foreign Minister Yugoslavia, and Ms. Eleanor Roosevelt, The First Chairperson of Human Rights Commission wife of the then President of USA Mr. Franklin Roosevelt and many other prominent personalities of the world decided to form WFUNA, as "a peoples" movement for the U.N. on 2 August, 1946 at Luxembourg.

Its preamble :

We, the Representatives of the United Nations Associations in our respective Countries, believing that since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed, and believing that the peace must be founded, if it is not to fail, upon the intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind, have resolved to combine our efforts to form an Association of the Peoples, and having agreed to the present Constitution, do hereby establish an international organization to be known as the WORLD FEDERATION OF UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATIONS.


Its main objectives;
to be a people's movement for the United Nations.

IFUNA has played a very significant role in the programs and activities of WFUNA. Sh. H.A.Halim President West Bengal Federation of United Nations Association has been elected President WFUNA and Sh. Suresh Srivastava, Secretary General Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) as Vice - President WFUNA in the 36th Plenary Assembly of WFUNA held on 16-18 April 2000 at Kolkatta, India. Sh. Ram Niwas Mirdha President IFUNA is Honorary President of WFUNA. Sh Sita Ram Sharma Secretary General WBUNA is Deputy Secretary General WFUNA and Director Asia Pacific Region.
